Sonny Vogel
Born 1922, The first generation of the Vogel Boys Racing family was A man with a passion and for adventure. In 1947 he started building engines for rum runners and local race cars. Starting in 1966 Sonny managed the first 911 Porsche and Brumos Racing with drivers such as Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood. Sonny went on to win many races and Championships with the now renowned racing team. Sonny’s passion for speed continued with motorcycles, boats and airplanes. His motto was “Gear short rev high and live a fast happy life” He will always be missed.
Sonny also served in the Marine Corps for 27 years. He retired as The SGT Major of the Marine Corps. This picture was taken in August of 1953 Shortly after the cease fire in Korea. VMJ-1, Marine Air Group 33 First Marine Air wing. Sonny is 2nd row on the left.
Mike Vogel
Started in racing motorcycles in 1965 at the age of 13, then drove his first street car at age 14 on the back roads of Atlanta, Georgia. With his father Sonny Vogel managing the Brumos Porsche racing team, Mike worked on the crew as a front tire changer. From 1967-1971 Mike rode AMA motocross to be the regional champion then Pro AMA from 1971-1975. In 1971 Mike built and drove a 1970 Camaro in the Daytona 24 hour. Then again in 1971 built and drove a IMSA Ford Pinto Baby Grand at the 24 hours of Daytona. 1975 included SCORE off road racing in a class 9, 10 and 1 for Fairway Chevrolet, Las Vegas, NV. Mike went on to drive the Cannonball Run and One lap of America 5 times in many cars including 1991 GMC Cyclone, Ford Mustang, Ford F-350 and a Pontiac Gram-am. Mike Currently does drag racing and NASA Spec E30.
Patrick Vogel
At age 7 Patrick began his addiction to speed on a 50cc Honda motorcycle. With help from Grandfather, Sonny Vogel and father Mike Vogel, Patrick built his first ½ scale Mini Cup car. After 70 races with 30 wins, 64 top 5s, 1995 Rookie of the year and the 1997 and 1998 West Coast Championship. He went on to drive his first 500hp IMCA Modified at age 16. With 57 races, 7 wins, 17 top 5s and again 1999 Rookie of the year. In 2002 Patrick and the Vogel Boys Race team raced a NASCAR Super Late Model for 18 race series. Patrick has worked for Richard Petty Driving Experience, Derek Daly Driving Academy and Andretti / Gordon Racing School. Recent racing experience has included NHRA ET drag bikes and NASA Spec E30. Patrick is also involved in Private driving instruction and Driving instructing for Porsche Club of America.
